jounal # 3

John Q is a movie that was made in 2002. The movie stars Denzel Washington. Denzel stars as John Quincy. A father and husband who son is diagnosed with an enlarged heart. He finds out the he can not receive a transplant, because his insurance won’t cover it.
John is a factory worker, while his wife, Denise work as a clerk in a grocery. One day John’s son is playing baseball with local little leguae. As he is running to the base; he collapses. He is taken to a local hospital. It is discovered that he has fallen to heart failure. A doctor explains to John and Denise that Michael heart is useless; he will need a transplant, or else he will die in a month or in a week. A transplant cost usually 250,000. John and Denise can not afford it. John’s insurance recently changed its plan. That there is a coverage payment limit of 20,000 and Denise does not have any benefits from her job. John and Denise make every effort to raise the money. they must make a down payment of 75,000 in order to put Michael name on the donor list in order to receive a new heart. Denise is told that the hospital is going to relase Michael, and his family will have to take him home and watch him die. Denise calls John and tells him that his son will be discharged without the transplant and begs him to do something, he takes the situation into his own hands.
One morning, John enters the hospital with a pistol hidden under his jacket. As he walks in the doctor is in the hallway causally talking to a patient that received a heart transplant, which angers John even more. John asks the doctor to enter the next room. At first, he begs the doctor to help him and promises to find a way to make a payment back. He points the gun at a physician head and orders him to give his son a new heart. They enter the emergency room, and he holds the hospital at gunpoint threatening to kill the hostage if his son does not get the operation,
An ambulance arrives at the hospital with a gunshot victim, who John reluctantly allows into the hospital to be operated on by the doctor , saving the man’s life. The paramedics becomes aware of the situation and notifies the police. John speaks to his wife, and then his son, telling them that the situation will be all right, unaware that there’s a hidden camera in the hospital that is being hacked by the news crew. The sniper shoter shots John, but the shot causes only a minor wound. John is demands that his son be brought to emergencey room, where he claims that the surgeon inside ready to perform a procedure to save his life. Once his son arrives John reveals that his intention to commit sucide , so his heart can be used to save his son. As john was ready to pull the trigger, his wifes rushes in telling him that a woman killed in a car accident miles away; who happens to have the same blood type as Michael. Michael has been flown to the hospital for organ recovery. John set the hostages free. Michael is giving the life- saving operation. John is taken into the police custodu, He is later cleared for attempted murder, but is found guiltly of kidnapping and expects to serve 3 to 5 yrs in prison for his actions.

journal #2


The scene begin with Sartaji preparing breakfast for her husband, Nimmi is begging her father to take her to a carnival. He says he can’t talk and hurries off to work. They seem like a very well-orientated family. Sarajrti takes her daughter to the carnival. While they are on the Ferris wheel Nimmi points out yelling “papa”. Sartaji looks and sees her husband with a lady and a baby. He and the women look very happy. Saritaji looks stunned and is shocked. The husband notices that Sartaji has seen him. You see Sarataji at home weeping on her bed. Sarataji visits her husband who has been in a car accident. The lady that had the baby dies. Sarataji husband explains that he married Sarataji, because her father was willing to pay him a lot of money. Before he dies, he asks Sarataji to watch the baby as it was her own. Sarataji takes a step back and looks at him shocked thinking why he would ask her such a question. She takes the baby home. There is a scene when the baby cries and the nanny takes care of the baby. While Sartaji tucks her daughter to bed. She shows affection to her daughter, while she ignores her stepdaughter. As Shalu grows, there’s a scene when they are on vacation. Shalu tries to take her stepmother out, and Nimmi quickly grabs her mom and they run outside. Shalu gets angry. She runs to her hotel room, and she quickly messes up the room. Shalu learns to express her feeling through rebelling. They show scenes on how Shalu rebels. She sits on a bench. A puppet is behind her, and talks to the little boy who owned the puppet. Ever since that day Sameer and Shalu have been best friends. Sameer always helped Shalu, when she gets sad about how her stepmother show her and love or affection. The scene goes to morning you’ll see Shalu opening the curtain. The girls are older noe. They are in their twenties. Nimmin works, and Shalu just usually hangs out with Sameer. The last main character is Dev. His father owns Khanna industries. The towns is angry at Sarataji, since she is the mayor. They want her to solve why there so many poor people getting laid off. Shalu is on a mission to help her stepmother solve her problem. Shalu sneaks out of town, and the taxi driver happens to be Dev. Dev duguises himself to see what is exactly going on with Khanna industry. On the way to Mr. Khanna’s home Dev and Shalu fall in love. Mr. Khanna agrees to let all worker work for khanna industry. Dev decides to run Khanna industry. He hires Shalu to work there too. One day Nimmi was walking to work and a truck hits. Luckily, Dev was close by, and pickes her up takes her to the hospital. Nimmi starts to have feelings for Dev. Sartaji notices that Shalu is in love with Dev too. She warns Shalu to step back the families arranges an engagement party. Sarataji arch enemy comes to the engagement party with news. He tells Sarataji to step down or else he will tell everybody her secret. Shalu overhears and comes into the room. He tells shalu Sarataji isn’t he real mother. Her mother died in a car accident. He threatens to everyone if Sarataji doesn’t step down. Shalu runs over to Mr. Khanna; s house and tells him that Sarataji isn’t her real mother, and that he shouldn’t stop the wedding of Dev and Nimmi. One the wedding day, Shalu performs a dance. Nimmi notices the look on Shalu and Dev eyes and how much they love each other. Nimmin stops the wedding and announces Shalu and Dev wedding.



The movie reviews were mixed. Most critics like the movie. The critics that gave a negative review wanted Nimmi to be focused on more. The rating for “Dil Hai Tumahara” is 6 out 10.

set it off

The story is based on four women who grew up in Los Angeles ghetto. Stony has had to act as a parent to her little brother, ever since her parents died. She worked at many jobs to make a future for him at UCLA. When her brother gets shot, by the police mistakenly. Stony get disillusioned with her life. She decides to join her friends to rob a bank.
Cleo, who is a lesbian, only wants to customize her car. As shown in the movie, she is expiernced with her car-stealing skills, she is the only character motivated by greed.
Tisean is very shy single mother. She is a mother to a son. She struggles to make ends meet. Tisean can’t afford a baby- sitter. She brings her son to work, which results her son to swallowing something poisonous. Therefore, her son is taken away by the protective services. Until Tisean can afford to hire a babysitter, so Tisean was willing to join her friends robbing a bank.
Frankie is a bank teller who gets fired, and ends up working in the janitorial service along with her three other friends. Frankie was fired, because she knew one of the robberies that happened while she was on duty.

The four women notice that the police are on to them, and they decide; they have no choice but to leave town and go their separate ways. After they hit up one more ban, which is owned by Keith, whom stony has been seeing for the past couple of weeks. Stony stalls Keith away from the bank, so that he wouldn’t be present during the robbery. Things go bad when the police are able to respond, before the three women exit the bank.
The police almost resolved the confrontation peacefully, talking to Stony and Tisean into putting their weapons down. Cleo isn’t giving up, and still continues to hold her weapon. The three woman escape to their get away car which pulls away, Although Tisean was wounded during the fight; she dies in an abandon car. The three women stole another car and onto their escape.
Stony escapes with her bag of money to a bus headed out of town. She waits for the bus to depart. She sees Frankie coming to her, but she is tracked down but the polices a helicopter, before she can get there. A direction tries to take Frankie into surrendering. She decides to take a run for it, and she is shot dead by the police. Stony watches as the bus moves, Stony goes to Mexico. She prepares a new life. In the end of the story, It s a scene where stony tries to get rid of her old identity.

While many Hollywood films in early and mid 1990s dealt with theproblems of black Americans, SET IT OFF was one of the few to deal with the harsh realities experienced by black women -underprivileged group that, apartfrom racism, had to suffer from sexism, something coming from the both sides of racial divides.
